How is this actually going to make me better?
You train the mistakes you actually make, instead of chess in general. Your report splits your game into five areas: blunders, tactics, the clock, converting winning positions and your openings. From there it is one kit: Woodpecker, blunder drills, the Opening Trainer, bots that play like people, all aimed by that report. 15 minutes on a busy day, or hours when you want to grind.
Does this work at my rating?
Yes. 4 out of 5 players here are rated under 1400. Everything you train comes out of your own games, so it lands at your level rather than someone else's.
What if I do not follow the plan?
Nothing breaks. A new plan is built every morning from your recent games, so there is never a backlog to catch up on. And you can ignore it completely and go straight to whichever trainer you feel like.
What happens to my progress if I cancel?
You go back to the free plan: unlimited game review, puzzles, and every game you have ever imported. The report, the coach and the full trainers switch off. Nothing is deleted, so it is all there if you come back.

You are paying them for game review and puzzles. Both are free here, and playing on Chess.com was always free anyway. We are the part that tells you what to train: your openings, your blunders, Woodpecker, bots that play like people, all aimed by your own report.
I do not like subscriptions.
Then do not have one. Lifetime is a single payment with nothing to cancel, and yearly works out cheaper per month. If you do take monthly, you can cancel it the day you buy and keep it until the period ends.
